Long term member, Barrie Jung, passes

It is with regret that we heard of the recent passing of Barrie Jung.  After a lengthy, hard battle with cancer, Barrie passed on April 25, 2024.  A 35 year member of the SAA, Barrie held many executive positions, both on the Board of Directors (President, Vice-President, Treasurer) and the Board of Trustees (Chairperson).  We were extremely proud and pleased to induct Barrie into the Auction Era Hall of Honor this past January, as part of the 50th Anniversary Convention and AGM.

Barrie was President of Hodgins Auctioneers of Melfort, until the business ceased to operate in 2015, and then was employed by Bruce Schapansky Auctioneers of Tisdale, until his passing.  He was very active in his community; was an avid sports fan, especially the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and competed in tractor pulls throughout western Canada.

Although Barrie was in direct competition with his fellow SAA members, he always displayed impartiality, and strived for the good of the industry itself.  His willingness to share his successes, especially in the technology field, was noted by all who participated in SAA events.

We extend our deepest condolences to Barrie’s wife, Tanis, and his children and extended family.  A good guy, gone too soon.  He will be missed.  Rest in peace, our friend.
